Pink Wood Sorrel
Here is a pink wood sorrel. This little flower is also known as a pink Oxalis.
This pretty pink flower surprised me completely. Before I tell you about that, let me first tell you that you may also know this flower by the name pink-sorrel. You also get them in yellow and white flowers.
I like these little flowers a lot and have photographed them many times in the garden. When I took this picture I thought it was time for a different background. I went and cut a stem and put it in a little vase to be able to give it another background than the green leaves of the garden.
The flower of the pink wood-sorrel folds its petals in if there isn't enough sunlight. They do fold their petals open when there is bright enough light, even if they are cut from the mother plant!I took this picture on a Saturday. I didn't expect the flowering stem to last more than a few hours. Oh, I was so wrong... On the Monday I saw the little flower again and I was surprised that it survived the two days. The stem of flowers continued to open for the rest of the week as if it was still on the plant! The pretty pink flowers are in the garden almost all year. That means you can use them in a little flower arrangement for your bedside table even if there are very little else in your garden. Just remember that they need bright light to open!
