Types of Daisy Flowers

There are many types of daisy flowers. They are used for all kinds of purposes. The plants or flowers are used as herbs, food, medicine, ornamental plants, cut flowers and some are regarded as weeds.

On this page I will show and tell you about some of the cut flower and garden varieties.

Ornamental Plants and Cut Flowers

All daisies are pretty and each have their own charm. Some daisies are better known for their beauty and some for their cut flower possibilities. Some of the well known ones are Gerbera, Chrysanthemum, Dahlia, Tagetes, and Zinnia.

Gerber Daisy

One that needs no introduction is the gerber or Gerbera daisy.  I use the spelling and capital letter for Gerbera because Gerbera is the botanical name.

Gerbera Daisies
Gerberas originate from Southern Africa. They come in all kinds of colors except black and green. They also come in different flower head sizes. You get smaller ones and then you get breathtakingly large ones.

You can buy gerber daisies in containers and as cut flowers. Although you can sometimes battle to grow them in the garden, even that is possible. Whichever way you use your gerber daisy, make sure that you get a plants or flowers that are suited for your conditions.

Garden Daisies

White Daisy... Touch the SkySome daisy family members close their faces when the sun goes down or when there are little light, but others stay open all the time. They are mostly sun-loving flowers.

This white daisy closes her face when the sun goes down and she also faces the sun when the sun is shining. You can see that she is facing the sun because the back of her head is in shade.

This is an African or Cape daisy. It's botanical name is Osteospermum. She comes in different shades of purple to white. This one in the picture is the darker shade.

Daisy Flower... Ants in My Petals!
This is an English daisy or a Bellis perennis. It's also referred to as the common daisy, but the one in the picture is a cultivar and not the original common daisy. She really is anything but common with such a pompom-like flower head.

This picture is also of English daisies. These ones have flatter petals.

Sunflowers

It is interesting to know that sunflowers can also be included on this types of daisy flowers page because they are also in the daisy family of flowers. You will see the similarities in the flower when you compare the other flowers on this page to the sunflowers. They all have petals that are actually tiny flowers. They also have a center that consists of many tiny flowers that will later become the seeds.
