Two colors, One Hydrangea

by Susan
(Piatt Co., IL)

One Hydrangea Bears 2 Colors

One Hydrangea Bears 2 Colors

My hydrangea is quite a few years old (planted by a previous owner). It sprouts pink, lavender and a darker purple-blue flower heads on the same bush... sometimes within inches of other flower heads. Is this normal? I've made no changes in my soil.

This is very special!

This is very special! Thank you for sharing your two color Hydrangea with us.

Although it's not uncommon to have two colors on the same plant, I think it's special that you have two distinct colors like the blue and pink that we see in the picture of your plant.

It's so neat to have two color flowers on one plant. We always want more flower colors and different ones than what we have. Well, you have the best of both worlds. You can even use them in two separate vases in separate rooms with different color schemes.

I have seen plants that have two colors of flowers, but not nearly as distinct colors as your plant. I have seen flowers that have more of a mix of colors ranging from pink-purple to blue, but none of the colors were just pink or blue.

Thank you!
