Red Poppy Flower Pictures
"Spiky..."

About the Picture: This red poppy flower has a hairy stem like the Iceland or Icelandic poppies. It shows off clearly in this picture. It almost looks like tiny thorns. It's not that bad. It's just the way the light reflects in this picture.

About the Picture:
In this red poppy picture the hairy stem is not nearly as obvious.
See the Difference
The minimalist stamen collection of this red poppy catches my eye. There is a big difference between the stamen collection of this poppy and the stamens of the poppies on the
Icelandic poppies
page.
Taking Pictures in the Garden
Generally I prefer the softer light that you get in your pictures with overcast conditions. But, so often you do get a breeze when you have overcast weather. I can just repeat what I have said on the Icelandic poppy page. Poppies love to dance in a breeze. That presents some challenges for the photographer. On the
Icelandic poppy
page I explain a way of getting the poppies to stand still!
About the Lonesome Poppy
This red poppy is of a lonesome poppy plant in our garden. It seeds itself every year, in more or less the same position. It is a full sun area, but it is fairly protected. Poppies are not native to our area. This poppy's ancestors are from a "meadow mix" seed packet that you scatter in the garden. Amongst others, it also had
California or golden poppies
in the mix. And, they are also hanging around season after season.
