Purple Calla Lily
Purple calla lily - There are a few calla lily varieties that can be called purple. The colors range from lavender colors, maroon, pink and burgundy. The so called black calla is also a very dark and deep purple, maroon kind of color.
The botanical name is Zantedeschia and the plant originates from southern Africa. Callas are also called Arums or Arum Lilies.
I bought this purple calla lily flower at the flower market where you can also buy directly from the farms. I was on my way to my favorite flower supplier when I walked passed white callas on a large trolley. The flowers were huge. I think they were destined for a grand wedding. I went on to my supplier and bought this purple one and a few other colors.
The are two main kinds of calla lilies. There are the white species and they are evergreen and much larger, especially tall. Although they are evergreen they don't flower all year round. Then there are the colored varieties, like this one in the picture. They are sometimes called minis. They are not always that small, but maybe it's in comparison to the white one that can be very large and tall that they can look very small.
