Gerbera (4)
There are more pictures of Gerbera daisies on this page. The pictures are of two plants I bought a few months ago.
What I Have Learned Generous and Resilient
These two plants were my first Gerbera plants. So, this is what I have learnt... They are resilient to draught and can recover from over watering. I will not say too much about how I found this out... I did not test them on purpose though. They flower regularly and the flowers last a few weeks each.
A Little Mistake
After they have flowered, I moved them to our plant nursery. The nursery provides shelter for pot plants between flowering seasons, plants that need extra care and young plants. It is sheltered, but it is also outside.
The next day I discovered that there were not much left of my plants. The snails did their magic trick in one night... They found the plants and made them disappear, well almost! I really did not even think that there were snails in the nursery at all. I was wrong!
The snails seem to think the Gerbera plants were from the snail-deli-counter... big soft delicious leaves. In hindsight it is quite easy to understand that the plants were so popular with the snails. The leaves must be delicious and tender to the snails. This must be especially true of Gerbera plants that are used to a cushy, sheltered indoor life. I moved the plants back to the house, and they recovered.
Surprise!...
