Photo of an Iris Flower

"In the Purple"...

... in the purple

About the picture: This photo of an Iris flower is called "in the purple". I took the photo in my garden. It is purple, except for some white and yellow bits. The yellow and white are on the hanging petals of the Iris. It is called the beard. This Iris has three sepals or falls and three petals called standards.

This purple Iris was one of the first of the season. Well, that is in my garden. I did however notice that other Irises in the neighborhood were already in bloom.

They flower in spring. But, I’ve had one of these Irises flower in the middle of winter. Click on the link to read the story of the purple Iris flower picture which I called “Saved from the Snow...”

Photography Tips

Breeze ... try again later!

I have mentioned before that a breeze does generally not work with photographing flowers. This is also true for taking pictures of Irises. The stems of the flower can tolerate a fair breeze. Unfortunately the petals of the flower are so delicate and light, that it moves in the lightest of breezes.

Busy Background ... cut it out!

In this photo I had to zoom in on the flower. The background available was very busy and distracting ... not good.
