Calla Lily Picture ... in the Wild

Calla lily picture along the roadside?

I went on a short vacation in November 2006. I was pleasantly surprised to find callas growing wild at the roadside. And I did get the picture.

Wet feet ...

calla lily picture... wild

About the picture: This picture is only of a few callas. They were everywhere. They had incredibly long stems and were in marshland conditions.

We even saw someone "harvesting" along the roadside... that was when I saw how looong the stems were. The man sliced the stem with some sort of sharp knife. It was easily more than one and half meter tall. That would be more than five feet. I wondered what he was going to do with the flowers. Was it for a flower market or maybe a wedding...

Where was this Road?
In the Natal Midlands of South Africa. Calla Lilies or Zantedeschia is indigenous to southern Africa.
