Anthurium Flower

My interest in the Anthurium flower was sparked when my mother received one as a dinner-thank-you-gift. I invited this plant over to my studio, like all the other flowering plants that come into my sight.

What I have discovered about Anthurium
They are part of the Araceae family... which is also known as the Philodendron or Arum family. This means that the Anthurium and calla lily is from the same family of plants.

Once you known this, it is quite easy to see the resemblance. Click on this calla lilies link to go to my calla lily gallery.

"Simplicity"...

Anthurium Flower

About the picture:
Taking pictures of the Anthurium flower is not quite that simple. The spathe - the red colored part, is shiny. And that is why it is also responsible for direct reflection. Generally you do not want too much direct reflection in your photo. I had to play around with the light positions to get good pictures.

The Result
You can see just enough direct reflection in the picture. It tells you something about the surface of the spathe... that it is a shiny surface. One possible solution was to filter the direct light with a diffusion material.
