Agapanthus Picture

"Ready Steady"...

Agapanthus picture... Ready Steady

About the Picture:
This Agapanthus picture is called "Ready Steady". The plant is ready to bloom. But, not one bloom has opened yet. The Agapanthus makes a pretty picture even with the buds not open.

The photo was taken in our garden. It was in the first half of summer.

Color & Variety
There are many varieties and cultivars of Agapanthus plants. The flower colors are blue, purple and white, with many variations in between.

Not too Fussy
The plants in my neighborhood grow in sun and shade. But, I have noticed that the Agapanthus plants that grow in shade tend to bloom later than the others.

Meaning of the Name
The name Agapanthus comes from two Greek words. The two words are "Agape" meaning love and "anthos" meaning flower.

Cut Flowers?
Agapanthus flowers are really good cut flowers. I say this, because they have a long vase life. They last as long as two or three weeks.

"Violet Music"...

Agapanthus picture... Violet Music

About the Picture:
An Agapanthus picture called "Violet Music". The violet colored flowers resembles the shape of trumpets. The little flowers open over a period of time. Some flowers in the picture are open and others not. The picture is of the same group of Agapanthus flowers as the one in the picture called "Ready Steady".
